“A house is made with walls and beams; a home is built with love and dreams.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
I was told growing up that “home is where the heart is”. This still feels true to me. I am sitting in a coffee shop right now, feeling content and happy that I have my home, right in my heart and I get to take it everywhere.
Home looks different for everyone. It isn’t about the walls or the structure. It’s about what I get to experience in my life and take with me no matter where I am. Here are some things that make me feel at home:
Sitting at the coffee shop surrounded by my beautiful neighbors who enjoy a great cup of coffee in the heart of town.
Taking a moment to chat creatively with my girls while hanging out on the back deck, taking in the sunshine.
Petting my huskies while wild pieces of hair fly all around me and cling to my freshly washed black shirt.
Spending a night out laughing with my friends who wanted to go out and grab a bite to eat together.
The friendly waves of people saying hi, when they may not even know each other.
A warm hug from a friend that knows you need one.
The dog walkers in my neighborhood who stop to chat about life because God is good.
Finding quiet moments in my favorite spot after a long day.
Waking up at 6am to meet a group of ladies online to share our faith and love with each other.
Getting to choose from the mountain of books by my bed, which I am going to read.
Hearing my husband say, “I’m proud of you!”
Flickering of a bonfire while listening to the crickets and cicadas.
Making sun tea just because it was kissed by warmth and light.
Picking up mismatched shoes, dog toys, piano books, gem art, and empty glasses that show me that my home is filled with the people and pets I love.
Lit candles and windows open on the table on a stormy afternoon.
The bees that fly by as they collect pollen from the nature around me.
This is home.
Where is home for you? Can you feel it? Let it settle in your heart and give you happiness. These are the moments to treasure. These are the blessings that we get to experience in our lives.
