Have you ever sat in a space where you didn’t think about your past or what is going to happen in your future? This space is unique; it can even give you a sense of security. I call it our in-betweens. In this space, we have the opportunity to see ourselves in a true, raw, and vulnerable moment.

Here is what this space is for me:

This in-between space is catching my breath after a long week of helping others overcome trials of all sorts. Noticing I am giving my all to love and to lead others.

It’s taking a moment to sit in the present and see me for me right now: brown hair, hazel eyes, smile wrinkles, frizzy hair, hands like my mama, and sitting at my local café with a coffee taste in my mouth.

It’s noticing and accepting the air I breathe as life-giving oxygen that feeds my body with one of the essentials of life.

The in-between is allowing myself to process information given to me now and to let my heart feel uncertain, confident, or excited.

This space is seeing the environment around me: people sitting having conversations, drips of coffee on the table, music in my ears, cars passing as I look out the window, knowing this is my community.

It’s the moment I stand in front of a mirror in my most vulnerable state and know I am beautiful.

The in-between is a space where I accept things in the moment as just a moment. No more and no less.

Most of all, this space is where God speaks to me through the silence. It’s the feeling of the Holy Spirit settling with my soul, where Jesus whispers, “I love you.” It’s my personal connection with the one who created me.

The in-betweens are a gift—a pause to see what God is doing in our lives in this very moment. To rest from our past and our future, embracing a fresh present moment made new.

We are faced with so many thoughts and decisions that it’s sometimes hard to sit in our in-between space. We want to forget the past and rush to our future, but we are missing the best part: the celebration of our life in the very present moment.

In this present in-between moment, as I sit in this café, I want you to feel how valuable you are to me, but even more so, how you are valuable and loved by God.

Don’t miss out on your in-betweens. Let them bring you moments of grace, peace, happiness, and reassurance. Give yourself the break it needs to just be.
