“Embrace the uncertainty. Some of the most beautiful chapters in our lives won’t have a title until much later.” – Bob Goff
In every season of life, I am met with uncertainty. We are all met with it more than we realize. I used to think that uncertainty was bad, but the more I think about it, it’s not. It’s an opportunity in time that allows us to put our faith into practice, where we can find our hope again and rely on a greater being than ourselves.
When we press into the uncertainty, we can often find our hypothetical walls closing in on us, the ropes tightening around our chest, the heaviness in the air making it hard to breathe; it’s an anxious feeling of being trapped without knowing if we will have the tools to get out. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
There once was a man who would become an enemy of a king because he was to replace the king. The man, chased by the king’s army, often had to hide to avoid being killed. He lived much of his life in uncertainty. He had good and bad days, but no matter what, he lived in hope and trust in God that all would be fulfilled and that he would be king someday as promised. It is recorded that he said, “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you” (Psalm 56:3).
David had faith and trust in God. He lived his life day by day, clinging to God’s faithfulness, and in the process, he ultimately became king. We also know many other stories where David made some poor decisions, and uncertainty continued to surround him, but he was for the Lord. David became the man after God’s own heart. (1 Samuel 13:14)
We don’t have to be perfect to have hope and trust in God. If you are facing a time in your life where uncertainty is the prevailing theme, then know that you are not alone. I encourage you to take the opportunity to put your faith and trust in God. He is there for your strength and support in your time of need. Let your uncertainty be your opportunity for growth in your faith.
Psalm 28:7-
The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
Look for the blessings in your uncertainty. Who has brought you hope or joy in your sorrow or fear? Who has lent a helping hand when you were tired or overwhelmed with uncertainty? Who has offered you love when you thought you didn’t deserve it or need it? These are just a few examples, plus many more, of how God uses people, pets, and communities to share His love and care with you. Look for those blessings; they are in abundance.
You will get through this season. Life is a beautiful gift. See the beauty in the unknowing, in the waiting, in the hope.
Take courage. Just like David, your title is coming.
